2 new Queen of Tears posters show a couple struggling to resurrect their marriage

Korean broadcaster tvN unveiled two Queen of Tears posters today, offering a glimpse into the not-so-happy life of two K-drama’s two protagonists Baek Hyun Woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun) and Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won) after their marriage collapses.

Park Ji Eun responsible for Queen of Tears scripts

Penned by renowned screenwriter writer Park Ji Eun, known for hits like Crash Landing on You and My Love From the Star, her latest romantic comedy drama Queen of Tears promises to tell the often funny love story of a married couple who end up in a crisis, only to realize they love each other anyway.

Main Queen of Tears characters

  • Baek Hyeon Woo: Portrayed by Kim Soo Hyun, he is the pride of the village of Yongduri, as well as the director of the major conglomerate Queens Group.
  • Hong Hae In: Played by Kim Ji Won, she is the third generation chaebol heiress known as the “Queen” of Queens Group’s department stores.

Two new Queen of Tears posters released (see above)

Ahead of its premiere, the drama has released two versions of posters:

Poster #1 — the sad poster

  • The first Queen of Tears poster has Baek Hyeon Woo and Hong Hae In standing close together and looking confidently into the camera.
  • Emotions that don’t match each other are evident, however, with Baek Hyeon Woo looking relaxed and happy while Hong Hae In’s expression appears sad. The jewel on her cheek also seems to suggest she has been crying.

Poster #2 — the together but apart poster (see top of page)

  • The second Queen of Tears poster features Baek Hyeon Woo and Hong Hae In sitting on a chic-looking sofa but, instead of sitting close together and appearing happy, they both sit on opposite ends. As far away from each other as it is possible to get.
  • Both appear sad, with Hong Hae In sitting matter-of-factly on the right side of the sofa staring resolutely at the camera, while Baek Hyeon Woo appears to be stiff, uncomfortable and unsure.

Both Queen of Tears posters do a great job of showing the distance between the once happy couple as they face a relationship that, while it may seem to be collapsing, they might actually both be desperate to save.

The Queen of Tears drama premieres March 9th on tvN at 9:10 p.m. (KST), with Netflix streaming it for international subscribers.

Mark your calendars. This one looks like a lot of fun.
