New wave band Berlin’s 1986 song ‘Take My Breath Away’ is another of the cool tracks that showed up on the soundtrack of the new Netflix movie Death Note this week. The song was played when Light and Mia are at the prom.

But chances are you were already familiar with the song as Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away‘ is a song that was originally written for the massively successful Tom Cruise movie Top Gun.

When it was released back in the 80s, it hit the number 1 spot in a slew of countries, including the UK, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands and Ireland.

It was re-released a few years later when Top Gun was first show on TV and, again, made the charts all over the place.

As for Berlin, they officially broke up just a year after ‘Take My Breath Away‘ was first released. The band got back together in various incarnations over the next twenty-odd years.

Nowadays, however, four of the original members are working together currently writing new songs and are planning to release a new album late this year or early next.
