Perfume Genius’ ‘Just Like Love‘ (Jam City Remix) was that luscious song heard on the soundtrack of the new Hulu series Woke this week — Woke, Season 1, Episode 2, “What Prequels?”.
It was the song playing as Keef is on his way home.
‘Just Like Love’ is from Perfume Genius’s 6-track Reshaped Remix EP, which was released in 2018 via Matador Records.
And, while I love Perfume Genius’s music, I love him even more.
Because he is a gay man who dealt with death threats in high school, has been beaten up by a gang of homophobic yobos and has lived through some really bad shit, but…he still lives his life as who he is, regardless of what you think about that.
And, in that living, he refuses to compromise what he wants out of life or out of his work, and so the music he produces is unique and has such immense soul.

We need more artists like Perfume Genius nowadays.
Artists that aren’t blindly selling out. Aren’t conforming to what their record companies or their fans want, even if that means they will never become a household name.
You can probably tell what mood I’m in today — beyond tired at the world’s sheeple, the conformists, the terrified little plebs sleepily ambling through life as if in a dream.
Especially when they try to drag those of us who refuse to conform down to their stultifying level.
Listen to Perfume Genius’ ‘Just Like Love’ (Jam City Remix) from Woke — superb music from someone who will never be like most of the rest of you.
And for that, I am eternally grateful.
