Officer Black Belt hits #1 on Netflix Top 10 – another hit for Kim Woo Bin and Kim Sung Kyun

South Korean action comedy film Officer Black Belt premiered on Netflix on September 13th and quickly catapulted to the top of the Netflix Top 10 Non-English Films chart.

In fact, the Korean film hit the #1 spot on September 15th.

That occurred just three days after release and, according to Netflix via their Tudum website, made it there due to being viewed 8.3 million times during those three days for a total of 15.1 million hours watched.

Not bad for a film that, honestly, didn’t receive a huge amount of promotion from Netflix before it hit the streaming service.

Even though it is an exclusive for the streaming service.

What is the Officer Black Belt plot?

Officer Black Belt stars Kim Woo Bin (Black Knight) and Kim Sung Kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin), with the excellent supporting cast of Kim Yool Ho (Uncle Samsik), Lee Hae Young (The Whirlwind), Son Sang Yeon (Racket Boys), and Lee Joong Ok (A Killer Paradox).

The film is Kim Woo Bin’s second feature film with Netflix, after he also starred in the equally successful Black Knight earlier in the year.

It is also another successful Netflix project for Kim Sung Kyun, who recently starred in D.P. 2 and who also had a main role in last year’s popular K-drama Divorce Attorney Shin.

Netflix describes the film’s plot quite succinctly like this:

A talented martial artist (Kim Woo Bin) who can’t walk past a person in need unites with a probation officer (Kim Sung Kyun) to fight and prevent crime as a martial arts officer.

Officer Black Belt was filmed in various locations in Incheon, Paju-si, and Seoul, South Korea.

You can watch the 1 hour 49-minute action film now on Netflix.
