Most recently known for his role in this year’s smash-hit drama Queen of Tears, Korean actor Park Sung Hoon began his acting career in 2006 with a small part in the film Ssunday Seoul.
It wasn’t until 2018, though, when he started to be awarded main or more prominent supporting roles more often than not.
Several of which have led to the now-39-year-old actor winning Best Actor awards for his performances.
Which performances and dramas have won the South Korean actor accolades so far, and is a Baeksang award one of them?
The performances that have earned Park Sung Hoon acting awards
Although Park Sung Hoon has already been nominated for two Baeksang Arts Awards — one in 2019 for his performance in My Only One, and another last year for his amazing performance in The Glory — he has yet to win.
With the way his career has been going lately, though, and how brilliant his performances have been in so many dramas, it is only a matter of time before a Baeksang award comes his way as well.
Especially as a huge number of actors never receive even a Baeksang nomination, and Park Sung Hoon has already received two.
He has, however, received five major acting awards — three of which were Best Actor awards, and one was an Excellence Award, Actor in a Miniseries.
So, what performances and dramas were these awards for?
- In 2015, Park Sung Hoon won a Best New Actor (Drama) award at the Korean Culture Entertainment Awards for his role as Gill Yoo in the Six Flying Dragons drama. The 50-episode drama itself had an enormous cast, so you can only imagine how good his performance was to stand out.
- In 2018, Park Sung Hoon won a Best New Actor award at the 2018 KBS Drama Awards for not one but two performances in dramas — a) as Jang Go Rae in the weekend drama My Only One and b) as Park Gon in Black Knight: The Man Who Guards Me.
- He was awarded an Excellence Award, Actor in a Miniseries award in 2020 at the KBS Drama Awards for his performance as Seo Gong Myung in the comedy romance drama series Memorials (aka Into the Ring)
- The actor also won a Best Couple award alongside his co-star Nana for their performances in Memorials.
- In 2021, he was given a Best Actor in Drama Special/TV Cinema at the KBS Drama Awards for his role as a bereaved father in the drama special Hee Soo.
Not a bad number of awards when you consider the actor has been nominated for around a dozen major acting awards, and won five of them, eh?

Shocked Park Sung Hoon hasn’t won a Baeksang yet. Liked him before but fell in love with him in Not Others. A totally underrated drama and his performance was so sweet.
Happy for Park Sung Hoon’s best actor awards. Didn’t know he’d won so many. But will be screaming happy when he wins a Baeksang.
Agree with you on ‘Not Others’. It was a drama that slipped under most people’s radar, but I couldn’t wait for each new episode. His chemistry with Choi Soo Young was understated but really believable.
And Park Sung Hoon’s best actor awards are also for brilliant performances, but I still think he will eventually perform in a maybe even more unique drama where he is mind-blowingly brilliant. And that will be his Baeksang. Fingers crossed!
