The Korean historical action film Harbin has already reached more than 1 million movie attendees in the less than 48 hours since it was released on December 24th in South Korea.
The official box office numbers were released by the Korean Film Council earlier today (December 25th), showing that Harbin had already hit 1,001,074 movie attendees during just its first two days of release.
News that is not that surprising really as, not only is Harbin based on an historical event that featured Korean resistance fighters pulling off a successful assassination of the first prime minister of Japan, but the film had been one of South Korea’s most-awaited.
Considering this is one of the fastest Korean films to ever hit 1 million moviegoers, it also bodes well for Harbin‘s future success.
Harbin, which takes place in 1909 Manchuria (although the movie was filmed in Latvia), and is written and directed by Woo Min Ho (Inside Men) also features a star-studded cast.
Hyun Bin (Crash Landing on You) stars as independence activist and assassinator Ahn Jung Geun, Park Jeong Min (Smugglers), Jo Woo Jin (Narco Saints), Jeon Yeo Been (A Time Called You), Lee Dong Wook (Tale of the Nine-Tailed), Park Hoon (Payback: Money and Power) and Yoo Jae Myung (Song of the Bandits).
There is no word as yet when Harbin will release internationally, but keep an eye out as, with its exciting plot and superb cast, this one should be a standout.
